Performance

Processor and Memory

For everyday office work, 4GB of RAM will do. For Engineering programs, Videos & Photography Editing, and light gaming we recommend not less than 8GB of RAM. if possible go for 16GB and more.

The HP ProDesk 400 G6 Microtower supports Gen8 Intel Core technology. 8th Gen comes with more cores than the previous generation. The i7 desktop CPUs feature 6 cores (12 threads), while i5 CPUs feature 6 cores (6 threads). The i3 CPUs are paired with 4 cores (4 threads). CPUs often used with this model are Core i3 8100, Core i5 8500, and Core i7 8700.

This model has 2 RAM slots. It should be more than enough for most users. For those who need extra flexibility and RAM size, go for 4 RAM slots and more models. The motherboard of this HP ProDesk supports RAM speeds of up to 2666 MT/s and a maximum of 64 GB of RAM.

This Desktop computer comes with 8 USB ports in total. The (4x)USB-A 3.0 supports fast transfer speeds for your peripherals connections, like an external Solid State DriveUnfortunately, unfortunately, this model doesn’t come with a USB 3.1 port that supports faster transfer speeds for your peripherals. If that is your goal you will need to choose another model.

You get a DisplayPort for connecting external monitors. The higher the Display Port versions the better the resolutions and refresh rates. HP Prodesk Microtower has no HDMI port but this is not a problem if there is a DisplayPort is available.

Fortunately, you will be able to enjoy fast transfer speeds with your SSD storage. Thanks to the M.2 SSD interface, it allows you to transfer data at higher speeds compared to the old SATA interface. Sometimes the M.2 interface will be 5 times faster and more.

Power Supply.

Having a PSU (Power Supply Unit) with a high power rating is important, especially if you are going to add components, like dedicated GPU and additional HDD, which require extra power. The HP ProDesk 400 G6 Microtower comes with a 310 Watt PSU. Deciding if this will be enough depends on your specific requirements and use.
